<p>Beginning Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. and ending Sunday at noon, 10 of the nation&#8217;s best quiz bowl teams played a total of 30 matches over 24 hours of game play at Houston&#8217;s St. John&#8217;s School. <p>During 19 rounds of play today, 17 high school teams and 4 college teams took part in the final 10 rounds of the TI NAQT Event and the first 9 rounds of the Houston section of ACF Regionals.</p>
<p>Hunter College High School (NY) defeated Bellarmine College Prep (CA) twice in the final two rounds to claim the Texas Invitational Championship.</p>
<p>Through 9 rounds of ACF Regionals, Rice A and Bellarmine are undefeated heading into the 6 cross-over rounds to be played Sunday starting at 8 a.m.</p>
<p>The 2012 edition of Texas Invitational featured participating teams from 7 states (CA, GA, IL, MI, NY, SC, TX) and the District of Columbia playing matches at St. John&#8217;s School in Houston. Six of the nation&#8217;s top 10 teams (#1, #2, #3, #4, #7, #10) took part in the three day event that offered 30 matches in 24 hours of match play. Texas Invitational IV will take place February 15-17, 2013.</p>

Teams from across the country (including 11 of the current top 20) will be participating. The participanting schools include: #1 Centennial (GA), #2 Hunter (NY), #3 Bellarmine (CA), #5 Seven Lakes (TX), #6 Dorman (SC), #7 IMSA (IL), #9 Detroit Catholic Central (MI), #10 Loyola (IL), #13 LASA (TX), #15 Cistercian (TX), #18 Georgetown Day (DC). The preliminary schedule of events is <a href="http://www.texasquizbowl.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/TI-Schedule.pdf">available</a>. In total teams from 8 states and and a college squad from Canada will be coming to Houston for the contest.</p>
<p>TQBA is currently looking for middle school and junior varsity student volunteers for this event. If you are currently in grades 7-10, enjoy quiz bowl, and would like to watch some of the best teams in the nation duke it out, please email me at romeroc-at-gmail-dot-com. In particular we are looking for scorekeepers on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.</p>

Teams have just 4 more opportunities to earn points towards <a title="TQBC XIII (May 5th)" href="http://www.texasquizbowl.org/state/12state/">State Qualification</a>: Maverick (Feb 11), St. Mark&#8217;s (Mar 3), Bluebonnet (Mar 31), and Bexar (Apr 14).</p>
