Texas Quiz Bowl is pleased to announce that we will host the Maverick Challenge  on February 11, 2012 at St. John’s School in Houston. This event will have both middle school and varsity divisions. This first division is open to all Texas junior high school students in grades 8 or lower. The second division is open to all Texas high school students.

Quiz Bowl is a academics-based game in which two teams of four students compete to answer questions about math, science, history, literature, religion, and arts. Students buzz in to answer tossup questions and correct tossup responses are rewarded with an opportunity to answer 3 bonus questions that cannot be stolen by the opposing team. The team with the most points after 20 tossup-bonus pairs is the winner.

This tournament is being organized and directed by Texas Quiz Bowl director Chris Romero. Teams that wish to register for the event may email their school name, faculty sponsor, team member names and grades, and contact information to Chris at romeroc@gmail.com.

On tournament morning Teams are asked to register at 8 a.m. in Room W-205 which is located near the parking lot nearest the corner of Westheimer and Buffalo Speedway (When you enter the upper school gate take your first right).  We will have a brief meeting at 8:45 and start our first matches around 9:00 a.m. Each team will play 6 matches during preliminary round play.
