Announcement

Texas Quiz Bowl is pleased to announce that we will host the Bayou City Quiz Bowl Classic on November 19, 2011 at St. John’s School in Houston. This tournament is open to all Texas high schools and middle schools. We will have separate varsity and middle school divisions.

Quiz Bowl is an academics-based game in which two teams of four students compete to answer questions about math, science, history, literature, religion, and arts. Students buzz in to answer tossup questions and correct tossup responses are rewarded with an opportunity to answer 3 bonus questions that cannot be stolen by the opposing team. The team with the most points after 20 tossup-bonus pairs is the winner. More information about quiz bowl can be found on our What is Quiz Bowl? page.

This tournament is being organized and directed by Texas Quiz Bowl director Chris Romero. Teams that wish to register for the event may email their school name, faculty sponsor, team member names and grades, and contact information to Chris at romeroc@gmail.com.

On tournament morning teams are asked to register at 8 a.m. in Room W-205 which is located near the parking lot nearest the corner of Westheimer and Buffalo Speedway (When you enter the upper school gate take your first right).  We will have a brief meeting at 8:45 and start our first matches around 9:00 a.m. Parking will be available at St. John’s in the main school lot.

The entry fee to this tournament is $75. Each team will play 6 matches and have two byes during 8 rounds of preliminary play. We will break for a pizza lunch between preliminary rounds 6 and 7. After the prelims the top 16 teams will advance to a seeded single elimination playoff.

Please email Chris at romeroc@gmail.com if you wish to register or request additional information.
