On October 11, 2014, Texas Quiz Bowl will host its tenth annual Kickoff Classic Quiz Bowl event at Seven Lakes High School (9251 S Fry Rd, Katy, TX 77494) in Katy.  This event is open to all high school teams and will be contested with questions from NAQT IS-138. This question set is the same that will be used at the Alamo City Kickoff one week earlier. No school may enter teams in both events.

Quiz Bowl is an academics-based game in which two teams of four students compete to answer questions about math, science, history, literature, religion, and arts. Students buzz in to answer tossup questions and correct tossup responses are rewarded with an opportunity to answer 3 bonus questions that cannot be stolen by the opposing team. The team with the most points after 20 tossup-bonus pairs is the winner. A sample invitational series packet is available.

This tournament will feature a single open varsity division.  Entry fee information for 2014-15 is available in this post. Registration is open and can be done by email to cromero@texasquizbowl.org. Pizza for lunch can be pre-ordered at the tournament site the morning of the event for $10 per one-topping large.

Check-in for the event will begin at 8 a.m. on tournament morning. An opening meeting will start at approximately 8:45. Each team in the contest will play 6 preliminary matches. Following preliminary rounds, teams will be seeded by win-loss record into a single elimination playoff bracket. Plaques will be awarded to the top 8 teams.

We anticipate that the top 8 Division I teams from this event will qualify for the 2015 NAQT High School National Championship Tournament to be held in Chicago. Every team will earn points towards attending the 16th Annual Texas Quiz Bowl Championship to be held on April 11, 2015. The winning team of this event will automatically qualify to attend the 16th Annual Texas Quiz Bowl Championship. The top four teams from this event will qualify to attend the prestigious Texas Invitational to be held on March 28-29 in San Antonio. This event is attended by some of the top high school quiz bowl teams from across the nation.
