Texas Quiz Bowl is proud to partner with St. Clare of Assisi to host the Space City Challenge on February 28, 2015.  This event is open to all middle school and elementary teams. We will use NAQT MS-14. A sample middle school series packet is available. Dr. Romero (cromero@texasquizbowl.org) will be the tournament director for this event. Registration is open and can be done by emailing Dr. Romero.

Quiz Bowl is an academics-based game in which two teams of four students compete to answer questions about math, science, history, literature, religion, and arts. Students buzz in to answer tossup questions and correct tossup responses are rewarded with an opportunity to answer 3 bonus questions that cannot be stolen by the opposing team. The team with the most points after 20 tossup-bonus pairs is the winner.

Check-in for the event will begin at 8 a.m. on tournament morning. An opening meeting will start at approximately 8:45. Each team in the contest will play 6 preliminary matches. Following preliminary rounds, teams will be seeded by win-loss record into a single elimination playoff bracket. We will have a brief awards ceremony prior to the final match at approximately 4:30 p.m.

Between preliminary rounds and playoff rounds a brief lunch break will happen. Pizza for lunch can be pre-ordered at the tournament site the morning of the event for $10 per one-topping large. There will not be enough time to leave the tournament site for lunch. Teams not opting for pizza should make alternate arrangements.

Base fee for this tournament: $120
Discount for supplying a working buzzer: $15 per buzzer used
Discount per team for schools attending MSNCT last year: $10

The top teams from this event will qualify for the 2015 NAQT Middle School National Championship Tournament to be held in Dallas the weekend of May 9, 2015. Every school that attend this event will qualify to participate in the sixth annual Texas Quiz Bowl Middle Grades Championships that will be contested on April 25, 2015 at St. Mark’s School, also in Dallas.
