On January 18, 2014, Texas Quiz Bowl will host a Heart of Texas tournament at Temple High School, 415 N 31st St, Temple 76504. Schools new to our competitions can enter one team without charge.
This tournament is open to Central Texas high schools, and will consist of a single novice varsity division. Schools signing up multiple teams will pay $80 for each team beyond the first. Registration is also $80 for teams which appeared at a TQBA event last year.
Registration is open and can be done by email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Tournament details and a list of registered teams will be posted on this page.
Quiz Bowl is a academics-based game in which two teams of four students compete to answer questions about math, science, history, literature, religion, and arts.
Our competitions will look very familiar to Rotary Challenge veterans: Students buzz in to answer tossup questions; correct tossup responses are rewarded with an opportunity to answer 3 bonus questions that cannot be stolen by the opposing team. The team with the most points after 20 tossup-bonus pairs is the winner.
Registration will open at 8:15 a.m. We will have a brief meeting at 8:45 and start our first matches around 9:15 a.m.
Each team will play preliminary round matches. There will be a 90-minute lunch break after Round 7 to allow teams to find lunch nearby. The tournament will conclude with a single-elimination, all-inclusive playoff phase to determine a champion.
At this event, schools earn points towards qualifying to participate in the 2014 Texas Quiz Bowl State Championship. The winner qualifies for that event, as well as the 2014 High School National Championship Tournament, to be held in Chicago, May 30-June 1.
