Texas Quiz Bowl is proud to announce that we have partnered with National History Bowl to host a San Antonio regional History Bowl and Bee, February 15 at Reagan High School, 19000 Ronald Reagan Drive, 78258. Registration should be sent to sfontenot@texasquizbowl.org.

Here is an introduction to some of the details for our TQBA History Bowl program.

History Bowl resembles TQBA quiz bowl format, pitting two teams of up to four students with buzzers against each other. However, History Bowl is played in four-quarter format, which includes a lightning round. More details can be found here.

Any Texas secondary student (middle school or high school) is eligible to register with teammates for History Bowl events.

Each team will play at least 6 preliminary round matches. The tournament will conclude with a single-elimination phase to determine a champion.

Each team consisting of up to four players will cost $95. There will be no discounts for one or two person teams. Registration for the individual events should be handled via the contacts listed above.

The History Bee will take place after the Bowl. In the Bee, individual competitors play against each other on rounds of 30 questions.

The US Geography Olympiad National Qualifying Exam will take place shortly after 8 a.m. All participants should arrive and check in before 8 a.m. There is a 20-minute limit.

The Bee cost will be $20 per student. The US Geography Olympiad National Qualifying Exam will cost $10.

Title I Schools should consult TQBA director Chris Romero regarding potential fee reduction.

Coaches will not be required or expected to read.

History Bowl registration will open at 8 a.m. We will have a brief meeting at 8:45 and start our first matches around 9:15 a.m. Pizza will be available for pre-order on tournament morning and drinks and concessions will be available during a lunch break after six rounds of the Bowl and one round of the Bee.

Multiple teams from one school can participate, but schools will be limited by the number of available slots in the respective tournaments. Every school will be given the opportunity of register one team before any school will be given the opportunity to register a second. Every school will be given the opportunity to register a second before any school will be able to register a third and so on. As we begin to register teams, we will also start waiting lists for additional teams. We will place teams from the waiting list into the field on the Monday before the Saturday event.

Please see the page with general details about our History Bowl Program.
