Prospectus 2010-2011

In 2010-2011 Texas Quiz Bowl hosted 13 distinct quiz bowl events. Those events were hosted in four 4 different cities at 7 different schools. TQBA hosted a total of 284 entering teams from 47 distinct schools from across the Lone Star State. That group included 11 middle schools, 32 high schools, 4 universities, 13 private schools, 32 public schools, and 2 charter schools. Our top events in 2010-2011 were Kickoff, Spartan Showdown, and Houston Holiday Hoedown which respectively featured 48, 42, and 42 teams. In 2011 Texas Quiz Bowl hosted its 12th annual varsity state championship, its 2nd annual middle school state championship, and its first ever new school events.

Last year 19 teams from 11 Texas high schools qualified to attend the High School National Championship Tournament. 16 teams from 8 of those schools attended the HSNCT and 11 of those teams from 6 schools qualified for the playoffs and finished in the top 65 nationally. The top 25 included 5 Texas squads from 4 schools and the top 10 included both LASA A (2nd) and Seven Lakes A (8th). In addition Kealing Middle School won the first Middle School national championship and the Texas All-state quad won the 2011 National All-Star Academic Championship.

In 2010 TQBA inaugurated its summer Quiz Bowl camp program at which students prepare to be better quiz bowl players by studying, strategizing, and playing. This past summer 36 students attended our 2nd annual camp. We expect to increase our camp to 64 in 2012.

Texas Quiz Bowl remains an active supporter of College Quiz Bowl. Last year TQBA hosted mirrors of the Academic Competition Federation’s Fall and Regional Tournaments, Maryland’s Terrapin Invitational, Minnesota’s Undergraduate Tournament, and served as the Region 12 host of NAQT’s Sectional Championship Tournament.

We anticipate that over the next three years we will add 30 new middle schools and 20 new high schools into our program. The cornerstones of our outreach efforts are our new school tournaments, middle school program, and summer Quiz Bowl camp. We are ardent supporters of the educational development of Texas youth and will continue to provide our students with the most dynamic, fun, and challenging academic competition.
