McAllen’s Lamar International Baccalaureate Academy won all nine of its matches at TQBA’s first Rio Grande Valley Bowl, taking the final 350-150 over Juan Diego Academy A on Saturday at McAllen High.
Lamar and Juan Diego were joined in the semifinals by Weslaco East and Lamar’s B team. Those four teams are eligible to register for the High School National Championship Tournament.
After a 60-point victory over Juan Diego A during morning preliminaries, Lamar’s Jonathan Galvan ensured there would be no revenge in the final. He scored 115 points to propel Lamar to a more comfortable victory in the second meeting between the event’s top two teams.
Galvan was the event’s leading scorer, with Weslaco East’s Isaiah Maldonado, Lamar’s Gabriel Ramirez close behind. Juan Diego’s Mary Graham and McAllen’s Garrett Garzoni were fourth and fifth respectively.
